Discover the Hidden Gems of Llandudno Tourist Attractions and Activities
One of the best things about Llandudno being close to land and sea is the abundance of amazing attractions available to visitors all year round. Rich and historic experiences, family-friendly activities and some nostalgia for everybody mean that you can make your break anything you would like it to be. We want to highlight just a few options that might pique your interest and give you a taste of exactly what is possible when you visit the queen of the Welsh Resorts.
The Great Orme Tramway
Arguably one of the most popular tourist attractions in Llandudno, the Great Orme Tramway is certain to make you fall in love with our Victorian heritage. Running throughout the year in peak season, the tram leaves the station before ascending the iconic Great Orme. Beautiful views are everywhere you look as your journey to the summit ambles along at a pace you can relax and enjoy. Halfway, you will leave the carriage and switch to a new tram, but not before witnessing the brilliant and vibrant history inside the station. Once you reach the summit, you are free to enjoy all of the delights on offer at the top and breathe in the panoramic Welsh views. Scenic views and attractions are the order of the day when you arrive. You can enjoy a spot of lunch in the cafe, let the kids roam the playpark or have a game of mini golf with some of the best scenic views on offer in North Wales.
Llandudno Beach Activities
There are almost 2 miles of Welsh shoreline to explore at Llandudno Beach. Along the promenade you’ll find a classic show of Punch and Judy at select times of year, a 200m long pier adorned with shops, arcades, food and drink outlets and independent Welsh produce. The beach itself boasts a lively watersports scene with speedboats throughout the peak season for your enjoyment or a slower-paced boat ride to take in the views. In summer, if you’re lucky you’ll be able to spot the abundant sealife, from dolphins to porpoises, alongside your boat.
Once you’ve exhausted all of the wonderful attractions on the beach there is space to set up and enjoy a classic beach day. Break out the buckets and spades near the pier, or if you’re here with the whole family why not venture to the other end of the promenade and see the beachside outdoor pool in Craig y Don. Great for toddlers and younger children, the shallow pool, space for deck chairs and onsite cafe (that also sells inflatables!) are super convenient for family fun!
Llandudno Pier Attractions
We’ve just mentioned Llandudno Pier, but we think it deserves its own blurb just for how packed with activities it truly is! This incredibly well-maintained pier has stood for over 150 years, providing many generations with fond memories that keep them coming back. There are a range of arcades and attractions as well as some fantastic independent Welsh businesses to explore. In more recent years an almost 70 ft Ferris wheel has joined the pier, delighting both residents and visitors with a new perspective to immerse yourself in. There’s nothing quite like the Ferris wheel lights at night too! This spectacle is a must visit during your stay.
As you walk down the pier you’ll see some iconic Welsh creatives from illustrators selling their artworks to fishermen sharing their latest catch for you to purchase, there is a truly eclectic mix that means you’re bound to find something worth picking up. At the end of the pier you’ll often find live music in the summer, a buzzing cafe and indoor and outdoor attractions.
Adventure Activities in Llandudno
If climbing and hiking are your thing, there’s plenty to experience here too. We often see visitors just coming over for the day after exploring nearby Snowdonia National Park looking for another thrill, and Llandudno does not disappoint. The Great Orme explored by foot is very rewarding with a halfway point cafe and the possibility of spotting our iconic goats. Experienced paragliders are seen in the area, often especially in the West Shore area of Llandudno.
Llandudno’s Great Orme is an exceptional choice for those interested in limestone sport climbing, with accessible and guided routes available to those interested in sea-cliff climbing.
The dry slope skiing in Happy Valley provides a challenging thrill, and there’s a nearby ex-RNLI boathouse that is now home to the Boathouse Climbing Centre, offering indoor bouldering.

Mackrel, bass and whiting are just a few breeds of fish abundant in the seas surrounding us. With no rod licensing needed (but some seasonal restrictions in place, you should check), both North and West Shore are popular destinations for sea fishing enthusiasts.
